Thanks to the generosity and commitment of so many of our volunteers, DunRoamin' now has a Foster Parent Program for our strays. You need no experience with pets or fostering to join our program. We match a foster pet with your level of experience, your home environment (ie. other pets, children, work and travel schedules, etc), as well as your preferences.
The purpose of our Foster Parent Program is to provide a home environment for our rescued animals while they await permanent placement. Foster homes provide a less stressful environment than a shelter, pound or other facility and speed up the socialization process by allowing the animal to interact with people regularly. Foster Parents are essential to the welfare and proper placement of our animals, as they increase the pet's chance of finding a loving, permanent home by evaluating the animal and providing our adoption counselors with a profile of the animal's character and personality, as well as being able to observe their actions and interactions in a home environment.
Before going to a foster home, all DunRoamin' pets have been:
It is common for foster pets to require follow-up vet care (at DunRoamin' expense) while they are in foster care.
Foster parent responsibilities include:

Trickle |
![]() |
"Trickle" and her sisters Chyler and Bliss all came to DunRoamin' on November 18, 2015 from Grand Falls. The people who had them requested that they beeuthanized because they were too wild. These three little girls wereonly about three and a half months old, born about August 1, 2015. We couldn't allow that to happen to such tiny babies. All three were in decent health, although they were slightly skinny and had fleas. Their parasites were treated and they got lots of healthy food so they could put on some weight. They were initially scared, but a little love and compassion went a long way and they soon realized they were among friends. As of January 6, 2016, they cuddled, purred and played with the best of them! They would like a quiet home where they can enjoy the company of someone who would be fine with cats who are not snuggle bugs, but still enjoy being in the room with people. Trickle has been fostered in Currie Siding since February 5, 2017. Shes still waiting for that permanent family!

In his life he had sustained several wounds and injuries. Today he displayed a very badly infected ear and he needed help.Splinter's ear was cleaned and he was placed on antibiotics to ensure the infection would not spread further. He wasn't sure what to think of us at first, but this old guy is happy to be warm, safe and have food delivered upon demand. Langford |
|
"Langford" came to DunRoamin' on March 8, 2019, from Woodstock where he had been a stray who had been hanging around for about six months and was being fed and sheltered during the recent cold winter months. On March 7, 2019, he had appeared with a large bleeding wound on the left side of his neck. Langford was born about March 8, 2017, so had apparently been surviving on his own for a while.Langford was delivered immediately to his newest vet friend for the medical intervention he required. It was learned that Langford had sustained a previous wound on his neck which had abscessed and burst. Langford was prescribed antibiotics and other required medical care, which he quickly received. Langford is covered with numerous old fight wounds, indicating that he's had a rough life to date, but all that changed today. He is very loving and affectionate and is grateful for the warm bed and plentiful food. He's a social eater who prefers to have company when he eats, so when someone is with him, he eats up a storm of that ever-present banquet! He quickly put on some weight and is now doing fine. Langford tested positive for FIV. Please read about FIV and FeLV here.Langford is a very attentive and smart little boy. He loves to run the length of the entire house and comes running when you call his name. He has a great sense of humour and will steal all the food he can get - he's got a very solid little body! If you're looking for a unique and interesting cat, he's definitely your boy!!

Frazzle |

"Frazzle" came to us from Waterville on the morning of May 13, 2019 where she had been found on a porch at 8 am. Frazzle could barely move. She was brought for help and was immediately taken to the Florenceville Veterinary Clinic for examination and assistance. Frazzle was not in good shape. She was born about May 13, 2017, but weighed only three pounds.Frazzle was dehydrated, very pale, had halitosis, was emaciated, lethargic, had burdocks matted in her fur and had a purulent discharge coming from her eyes.A thermometer revealed that her body temperature was also several degrees below normal. She was very cold.Frazzle was warmed up, given intravenous fluids, medications and several tests were conducted to determine if her kidneys and other organs were working properly. Frazzle was so exhausted and weak that, in the next few hours and days, she could barely hold her head up when trying to eat warm food.On May 14, 2019, Frazzle received a blood transfusion from a generous feline donor which has begun to make a world of difference for her. Thanks, Biggie! You saved her life! Frazzle used the litter box for the first time on May 15 and appears to have the tiniest bit of energy - that's a WONDERFUL sign! She (and we) would like to thank the Florencevile Veterinary Clinic for their kind and hard work to ensure this little one has a chance at the life she deserves. We'll keep you up to date on her progress. UPDATE: On May 31, 2019, we learned that Frazzle is improving nicely and is comfortable, happy, purring and content with her huge staff of human servants who wait on her hand and foot, day and night. In June, she required a feeding tube to be inserted as she declined her meals. As of June 28th, she is eating on her own again and feeling better. She'll keep the feeding tube for another week just in case she decides she doesn't want to eat again, but she's doing really well! She hopes she can be well enough to go live with a family soon.UPDATE 2: On August 15, 2019, Frazzle was fortunate to go to a foster home where she is treated like a queen and is doing amazingly well! Her kittens, Rosamund, Rochester and Eyre (see below) also came with her. We thank the person who discovered this colony all alone and brought them for help. Trinity |
![]() |
"Trinity" came to us from Oakland on June 10, 2019 along with nine more cats, as well as 16 others who had arrived four days earlier, for a total of 26 from that location where they had been living in and around a home but had little care. All had experienced exposure to fleas and ear mites and many had such bad upper respiratory infections that they required intensive medical care (please read about them above and below).Trinity was born about June 10, 2017, so may be a sibling to Jubilee and Asterisk (already adopted). She is a beautiful buff multi mother cat who was initially timid, but is doing well as she becomes accustomed to us. She had been exposed to upper respiratoryinfection, fleas and ear mites, but has been treated for all. She is also spayed, fully vaccinated and tested for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and Feline Leukemia. She's looking forward to a nice home where she'll be safe, warm, fed and loved. She currently lives in a home with two dogs whom she does not mind at all. She may have a tendency to run through open doors, but she always comes back infor food and company. Her adoptive family should have double doors and be aware that she might try to get out, but as always, our cats must be indoor cats only where they are always safe. Trinity is doing very well staying indoors, but may attempt a short escape on occasion.

Gretchen |

"Gretchen" and her sister Rosalita arrived at DunRoamin' on August 2, 2019. They had originally come from the Edmundston area where they had been found in an empty apartment. Fortunately, they had no extreme health problems, but no one wanted them and they were scheduled for euthanasia. Gretchen was born about February 1, 2019, so was only a kitten. She was initially timid, of course, after what she'd been through, but she's doing so much better now. She is now spayed, fully vaccinated, tested for FIV and FeLV and treated for all parasites. She is a beautiful little girl who dreams of a family to grow up in.On October 2, 2019, Gretchen and her sister Rosalita were fosteredby a very kind lady in Bath. We are very grateful, as we were completely full at DunRoamin'. We appreciate thehelp very much and Gretchen enjoys the love and attention of her foster family - both feline and human!!

Waif |
|
"Waif" returned to DunRoamin' on January 29, 2021 from Woodstock where she had been adopted about three years previously. Waif had become ill and was not doing well, so she returned to her original vet to be treated. Waif had a temperature and did not want to eat.She was prescribed medication and required a feeding tube inserted until she feels well enough to eat on her own, which we hope will be very soon. Waif was born about January 3, 2017 and is a very nice, friendly, affectionate little girl. We'll keep you up to date on her progress. We'd like to thank her vet tech foster mother for taking such good care of her. She's in the best of hands.

Gaia |
|
"Gaia" came to DunRoamin'from a colony of cats in Somerville, NB. Born about January 1, 2020, she was not in good shape. Her left eye required enucleation (removal), and she required dental work once she was strong enough. On top of these medical issues, she was found to be diabetic. She's had a hard go, but that all ends today.Gaia tested negative for FIV and FeLV and was spayed. She requires a very tiny amount of insulin twice daily and a diabetic diet which have both allowed her to regulate her system very well. We hope that eventually she will need only the diabetic food and can dispense with the injections! She is a beautiful little girl who is grateful to be warm and safe. Now that she's starting to feel better, she is showing her real personality - and it's a winner! She hopes for a loving home very soon. Her insulin injections are really no big deal, are very inexpensive and she is SUCH a sweet little girl! She is already putting on weight and she will be very grateful to have a family of her very own.Diabetic cats may require a diabetic diet and/or an insulin injection once or twice daily, but once they are regulated, they do very well! Gaia eats Fancy Feast canned food and Purina DM dry food and she loves them both. She has put on weight and is now a healthy, happy, loving and affectionate little girl. She would love to have a family and live in a loving home - she's been waiting since Day 1, and she's definitely ready for one!!Please spay and neuter your pets!!

Gilmore |
![]() |
"Gilmore" came to DunRoamin' on June 2, 2021 from Gregg Settlement where he was peeing inappropriately in the home. Gilmore was assessed by his vet at Florenceville Veterinary Clinic and found to have cystitis for which he is now being treated. Gilmore is a sweet little boy. He loves to have his ears scratched and loves attention. He must eat Urinary S/O food only as he may have a tendency to block if he eats any other food. This is a high-quality food that we have used for years and have had not even one single recurrence as long as they stay on this diet! Gilmore is looking forward to meeting a family who will love him very soon! Perhaps there is a family that is already feeding their cat Urinary S/O food - he'd love to join!!On August 10, 2021, Gilmore went to be fostered with Rocky, another DunRoamin cat (see above). Thank you for accepting him into your home while he awaits a permanent home. You are wonderful!!

Yaeger |
![]() |
"Yaeger" came to DunRoamin' on January 17, 2023 from Somerville, NB. He had been a stray in the area for about four years but was now injured and had no one to care for him. Yaeger was born about January 17, 2014. He had several deep wounds on the side of his face that were probably self-inflicted due to the large number of parasites he was carrying which made him so itchy and uncomfortable that he scratched himself very badly in an effort to stop the pain. Yaeger was immediately provided with all medical care required, including parasite control. As of February 17, 2023, his wounds are healing well. He is a very nice boy who has tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. Please read about it here. Yaeger's wounds have healed very well. He may still have a bit of scarring on his face (or not!), but his eyes glow with gratitude now that he is pain-free, warm, safe and has such a delicious and nutritious diet. He would love to have his very own home and family - that would be a miracle to him! Please come meet him - he loves people and has lots of attitude!!

Forest |

Forest came to DunRoamin' on December 12, 2020 from a colony of 62 that was growing unchecked.? She was born about June 13, 2019, so is a sibling to Cadeau, Eira, Amaryllis and Neige.Forest had upper respiratory infection, flea allergy dermatitis and ear mites.? She is a beautiful long-haired?grey tabby who looks forward to having a safe, warm and caring home in which to spend the remainder of her life.? Because she has never been without multiple cats in her life with whom to sleep, cuddle and play, we hope she may be adopted with a sibling so that she may feel loved and comfortable when her life changes for the better!!As of mid-January, she is still experiencing some upper respiratory symptoms and is under close supervision of her veterinarian to ensure he gets better as quickly as she can.? Had she not had this care, she would not be in a good place at all, but we were certain with the expertise of her vet, she would soon be fine and ready to go to a home of her very own.? She is currently on inhalable medication twice daily for asthma and it is possible that she may need this for life.? She stayed close to her vet for several weeks to ensure she was doing well.

She had an umbilical hernia which was quickly repaired when she was accepted as a DunRoamin' ward. Strauss was born about May 1, 2014. Strauss has become a very affectionate and trusting little girl. As of January 21, 2015, she is fostered with a family in Bristol. Thanks, Shawn and Mitchell, for giving her a home environment. It is most probably a very unique experience for her!

Gretchen |
Gretchen![]() "Gretchen" and her sister Rosalita arrived at DunRoamin' on August 2, 2019.

Waif |
Waif"Waif" returned to DunRoamin' on January 29, 2021 from Woodstock where she had been adopted about three years previously.

Gaia |
Gaia"Gaia" came to DunRoamin'from a colony of cats in Somerville, NB.

Gilmore |
Gilmore![]() "Gilmore" came to DunRoamin' on June 2, 2021 from Gregg Settlement where he was peeing inappropriately in the home.

She had been adopted on April 16, 2013, but had been returned as she was stressed by the noise and activity of young children. On December 4, 2014, she was adopted by a couple from Stickney, but they eventually gave her up for reasons unknown.

Yaeger |
Yaeger![]() "Yaeger" came to DunRoamin' on January 17, 2023 from Somerville, NB.

Forest |
ForestForest came to DunRoamin' on December 12, 2020 from a colony of 62 that was growing unchecked.?

Strauss |
Strauss![]() "Strauss" came to DunRoamin' on October 28, 2014 from the Brookville area where she was one of several cats who had taken refuge in a shed. Kind neighbours had very generously taken on the task of their care and were diligent enough to notice a lump on her belly. She is currently eating Urinary S/O food.
