Dunroamin' Stray and Rescue

We're all dunroamin'

"DunRoamin'" means just that: our strays are all done roaming, are safe at last and will finally receive the medical care, attention and the family they deserve.

DunRoamin's mandate is to help those strays who have no one to care for them - the ones who are abandoned, abused, injured, neglected and have no other alternative for life. We cannot accept healthy animals, as we would very quickly have no room for the ones who truly need us - the ones who would most likely "fall through the cracks" of our current system.

We focus on three main aspects:

"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE"

This website is dedicated to the volunteers and supporters who consistently go above and beyond to help abandoned, abused, neglected, sick and injured strays in our communities. This includes donors, fund raisers, litter scoopers, vet staff, drivers, cuddlers, adopters, fosters and many others who routinely give freely of their time, abilities and resources to help those animals less fortunate.

We'd also like to dedicate this new site to Susan and Lauren Crompton, the originators of DunRoamin's first official website, www.bekindtogodscreatures.com, which was instrumental in bringing DunRoamin' to the attention of others and helping to educate and pass on our message of the requirement for spaying and neutering our pets so that they do not contribute to the already overwhelming number of homeless animals.

Crombie

I'm available!

Crombie came to DunRoamin' on April 23, 2022 from Crombie Settlement, NB.  He had been found in an abandoned house where he had been seeking shelter for quite some time.  A kind lady wanted to catch him, but when she went back to the house he was gone.  Approximately two weeks later, she was able to find and deliver him to us.

Crombie was born about April 23, 2012.  Assessment by his new vet friend showed that he was very dirty, matted, emaciated, had fleas, ear mites, internal parasites and a luxating patella on his right leg.  He had obviously been having a hard time trying to survive, but the worst and probably most painful thing was his mouth.  All his teeth were rotten and painful and therefore required to be removed.  He also had a very bad abscess on his tongue which had resulted in a hole which extended all the way through his tongue.  This was painful and made eating difficult for the little boy.  He was also covered with a black tar-like material.

Crombie was immediately provided antibiotics, pain medication and a nice warm and comfortable bed.  He was also given wet food which he devoured instantly.  Despite his physical condition, he was soon purring and kneading - saying thank you to his new vet friend for her help to make him more comfortable.  All his medical issues were addressed and he has shown his gratitude each and every day since - he is a loving, affectionate little sweetheart!!  Crombie was tested for FIV and FeLV.  He tested positive for FIV which is absolutely no big deal - please read about it by following the link below.

Crombie was soon a healthy and happy little boy who has bonded with Beau, who is also FIV+.  They are the very best of friends and we hope that they may be adopted together - they are always found together, and when they sleep, they wrap themselves around each other!  Both are neutered, fully vaccinated and treated for all parasites.  They are exceptionally affectionate with each other and will bond quickly with their new human.  They look forward to living in a home, watching TV, chasing a computer mouse and the many other things such fortunate adopted cats get to do!  They thank their sponsors for providing their medical needs - they are forever grateful!

In March, 2026, Crombie underwent a Total Ear Canal Ablation - Bulla Osteotomy (TECA-BO) surgery to remove a growth in his left ear.  This is major surgery which took approximately 3.5 hours.  Thankfully, it turned out to be a non-cancerous polyp!  Crombie is much happier and more comfortable now, and he is grateful to all his sponsors and supporters who made this surgery possible.  Although he does not have the ability to hear in his left ear now, he will no longer experience any discomfort or pain.  He and his best friend Beau are very pleased with these results, and Crombie is doing better each and every day.  He is a very lucky little boy to have such loving support.  Thank you!

We focus on three main aspects:

  • Rescue: helping those strays who are injured, neglected, sick, etc and have no one to care for them. We also try to help those who are too sick, too injured or too young to survive in a normal shelter setting.
  • Treatment: providing food, medication, surgery, etc to all rescued animals as required. This also includes helping them to find foster and permanent homes, and ensuring they have the life they deserve which is safe, secure and free of fear.
  • Education: we endeavour to set an inspiring example. We believe animals are deserving of our care and respect. Through our responsible guardianship of the pet, by ensuring they are spayed or neutered, by providing briefings, handouts, flyers, newspaper articles, etc, we try to encourage people to treat all animals with compassion and respect. Our main target group is the younger generation so that they will do better by animals, as hopefully we have improved upon their treatment through the advancements since our parents' and grandparents' generations.

So far we've helped over 6000 animals find their forever homes.

There are currently 45 hoping to find theirs.

See them here.
