Many seniors would greatly enjoy and benefit from the companionship of a cat but worry about three potential problems:
Under the ‘Cats for Seniors’ program, the “ownership” of the animal remains with DunRoamin’. We are, therefore, able to provide the following:
A senior who joins the program will have the benefit of a feline companion without the worry of medical care or having to find a new home for the cat should they no longer be able to care for the pet in their home.
The daily needs of an adult cat are very simple: companionship, a bowl of food (dry or canned), fresh water and a clean litter box (all DunRoamin’ cats are required to be indoor cats only). Most cats will respond to your affection and be content to spend time in a caring home. The gentle purr of your cat will help you relax and their play with a simple toy can keep you amused for hours.
Senior citizens (age 60+) who live in the Bath, Florenceville-Bristol, Centreville, Hartland or Woodstock area are eligible to participate in our program. Participants must be capable of providing for the physical needs of the cat (feeding, cleaning, exercising, etc) or have someone who is willing and able to assist them on a daily basis.
The participant must also be capable of transporting the cat to DunRoamin' for any medical requirement which may include such things as annual examinations/vaccines/etc. DunRoamin' alone is responsible for all medical care, including scheduling/booking medical appointments through our own vet. The Cat For Seniors participant is required to communicate all information regarding their Cats For Seniors cat directly to DunRoamin' on a routine basis.
The average cost of food and cat litter is as little as $1 per day. There is no cost to join the program.
A DunRoamin' volunteer will contact you to learn about you and help choose an appropriate cat who will fit happily into your life. They will then arrange an appointment to allow you to meet cats selected to participate in our program. It is very often true that cats select you (rather than vice versa), so please allow plenty of time to meet with and get to know your potential new companion.
All cats in our Cats For Seniors program are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested for Feline Leukemia Virus and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, treated for parasites and have personalities that have been evaluated to ensure they will fit quietly and lovingly into the home and routine of their new senior.
Each Senior will be connected with a DunRoamin' volunteer with whom they will be in contact on at least a monthly basis. This volunteer will be a liaison between the Senior and DunRoamin' should there be any questions or problems.

Fivel |

"Fivel" returned to DunRoamin' on August 1, 2019. He had originally come to us on June 5, 2015 from Florenceville where he had been found wandering in a yard. He had a lacerated right hind leg, a severe infestation of ear mites, bleeding ears and infected puncture wounds on both front legs. He needed helpand he was able to receive it. On December 15, 2015, he was adopted to a home in Peel. Unfortunately, he developed crystals in his urine which clogged his urethra, ensuring urine could not leave his body. This is very serious.Fivel was accepted by DunRoamin' and is currently undergoing care at the Florenceville Veterinary Clinic where he'll get exactly what he needs. He is a beautiful boy! On August 6, 2019, he underwent surgery to remove several tiny stones stuck in his urethra. This surgery, which included a perineal urethrostomy, allowed the stones to be removed/passed and he's doing better. He must eat a diet of Royal Canin Urinary S/O food to ensure he does not form stones or block again. We have had dozens of cats on this diet and have had not a single recurrence - as long as they eat Urinary S/O food, they're perfectly fine!Fivel is currently in our Cats For Seniors Program where he lives happily with his friends

Tater |
![]() |
"Tater" originally came to DunRoamin' on October 8, 2009 from Peel, NB where she and her siblings were found in an abandoned potato house. Only about three weeks old, she had fleas, was hungry and cold, but was otherwise healthy, having been found just in time. Tater was adopted to a home in Perth-Andover on December 18, 2009, but was returned on June 14, 2023 as her owners could no longer care for her. Tater, now approximately 13 years old, had a very bad urinary tract infection.
Tater was treated at the Florenceville Veterinary Clinic and was soon safe and sound with DunRoamin' where she was provided with her own private lodging while she underwent a course of antibiotics to ensure the infection was completely gone. She was a little shy, but soon became much more comfortable with us as she realized she was safe, warm, fed and loved. Tater is a very sweet little old lady who was looking forward to having a loving, quiet home where she could live out the remainder of her years in the love and comfort of a caring family. Tater was born about September 15, 2009. On July 4, 2023, she moved in with a very nice family in Upper Brighton where she will be a Cat For Seniors. Congratulations, Tater!! |

Birdie |
![]() |
This is "Birdie." On May 30, 2011, three mother cats came to us, along with their collective 11 kittens. They had been living in Mainstream under an unoccupied house and had no one to care for them. They were all healthy, and the moms were beautiful, loving and affectionate. Had they not been accepted by DunRoamin', chances are some of them would have died, some would spend their days fighting to stay alive, and all would have contributed to the growing number of unwanted strays. Birdie was an excellent mother, and her foster parents fell in love with her at once. Her foster mother, a veteran at this, identified her as the sweetest cat she had ever had. Birdie is extremely affectionate and loves people, dogs and other cats equally. On July 15, Birdie was welcomed as a permanent family member of a man in Fredericton who wanted the best of friends for his dog Morley and cat Lilly-Beth, both former DunRoamin' strays. We're happy that he got the most wonderful cat ever! Thanks again, Dan. All three of your pets are very lucky animals!!

Auricle came to DunRoamin' from the Weston area on March 12, 2016. She had wandered into a dooryard and the lady saw that she needed medical help. She had injuries on her ears, paw pads and the tip of her tail. She was also skinny and dehydrated. She quickly received all the medical care she required.Auricle was born about May 15, 2013. Despite her physical condition, she purred up a storm. She's a real sweetheart. She's 100% healthy, definitely happy and ready for a home. She is the first to roll, head butt and climb on your lap when you enter. She's very social and playful. On July 10, 2016, Auricle was chosen, along with her friend Crysis (see above) by a lovely couple from the Nackawic area to be their two newest family members. They join two young kittens who will be delighted to have lots of company. Congratulations!!

Slippy |

"Slippy" returned to DunRoamin' on March 10, 2024. She had originally been adopted as a kitten who had been rescued from a box in the rafters of a shed in Bath in 2017. She had been returned due to the fact that she had recently become aggressive in her home. She was born about October 17, 2017. Slippy is a beautiful tabby girl. She was slightly overweight but is now up to date on her vaccines and parasite control.
Slippy is a very nice little girl who now shows no sign of aggression. She has lost some weight and is currently very proud to be a Cats For Seniors kitty, where she keeps her senior company in the Woodstock area. She is grateful for a warm, loving home, and gives her love in return. She is looking forward to a permanent home, and is grateful to the lady who takes care of her in the meantime. |
